Electricity and Circuits Incursion

We discuss the many ways electricity can be generated and how electricity can be transferred to other places using circuits. Children are taught that new technologies, such as solar power, wind turbines and batteries can change how we generate power and store it.

They are taught about renewable energy and how it forms a large part of our electricity generation. We also discuss how power is transferred to our homes via power lines and how they are large-scale electrical circuits that transfer power.

Taskwork
Taskwork
  • Use our electrical circuit boards to complete various circuits. These circuits can be simple or complex.
  • Connect a power supply to drive low voltage motors and vary the speed of the motors after completing the circuit.
  • Explore how resistance in wires can create light and heat and vary the amount of light produced.
  • Create circuits to operate electromagnets and see how they produce magnetic push/pull forces.
  • Create sound and vary the sound using electrical circuits and controls.
  • Wire-up a series of light bulbs and see how they operate when more bulbs are placed into the circuit.
  • Look at the action of electric motors and how they drive mechanical devices and allow electricity to be transferred into other forms of energy.
